Brian mocked his sister when their grandmother had invited them to her house, as he called her a “bookworm.”
Their 90-year-old grandmother Marlene had wanted to see them. She wanted to see them for one last time before her passing, as she told them on the phone.
When Linda entered to Marlene’s bedroom, she saw that the room was dusty, as Marlene had no power to clean her house. She ran towards Marlene and hugged to her.
“Don’t worry grandma.” she said. “You will live another hundred years.”
Linda was living with Marlene before she went to college with a scholarship. She was now living in a different city.
Then Brian entered as he coughed. “Damn…I’m allergic to dust!” he said. “Why don’t you sweep your room grandma?” he asked. As he was standing next to Marlene’s bed, he was seemingly bored.
Linda was worried for her grandmother, as she was holding Marlene’s hand. Then Marlene gave the envelopes to her grandchildren. “Please use it wisely. I called to give it to you.” She said.
The grandchildren found $5,000 in each envelope. As Linda cried and left the room, Brian was not happy with the amount of money. “I thought you had more money.” he said.
On the next day, Marlene was surprised to see Linda in her room. Linda started to clean everywhere as she said, “Good morning, grandma!”
Then she started to talk about Marlene’s eye surgery. She revealed that she added $4,000 to the money she gave to her, and now they could pay for the surgery.
As Marlene refused the money, she explained that her time is coming to an end, and that she should use the money for something she could use. As Linda cried, “I’ve taken a month off. I’m not going anywhere until I see that golden smile on your face, grandma,” she said.
As time passed, Linda used the money to renovate her grandmother’s house. As Marlene couldn’t held her tears back, she hugged to Linda. A week later, Marlene was gone.
Few days after the funeral, her lawyer called Linda and Brian. The lawyer revealed a secret inheritance. Brian got the house, and Linda received a box. In the box, she found five antique clocks. Brian mocked her as he was happy that he received the house.
One day, as Linda was examining the clocks, she saw an engraving, “OPEN IT!”
She found a note inside.
“Never underestimate these rusty, old watches! They are 100-year-old classic timepieces that belonged to my grandfather. And they are crafted from rare, exquisite metal! Each piece is worth $40,000, my dear! Everyone gets what they truly deserve, Linda! I’m glad you got only the best. With Love, Granny Marlene.”
