Dozens of intricately carved wooden figurines, each one more beautiful than the last. The security officer and the small crowd that had gathered around the inspection area couldn’t believe their eyes. The suitcase was packed with them, some painted with vibrant colors, others left in their natural wood finish. Each figurine was unique, depicting scenes of everyday life, mythical creatures, and even some iconic landmarks from around the world. The craftsmanship was so exquisite that they looked almost lifelike.
The elderly woman stood there, tears welling in her eyes. The security officer, still trying to process what he was seeing, asked, “Ma’am, what are these?”
With a shaky voice, she replied, “They’re just gifts for my grandchildren. I carved them myself over the years.”
