Stephanie was in a hospital in New York, where she was strolling the hallways to clear her mind, as she was in there after she had problems with her throat. As her late husband was an author of best-selling books, she was receiving respect from the people, except her children, her son Mark and her daughter Amelia.
As Stephanie didn’t want her daughter to be married with her current husband, Amelia didn’t listen to her mother and got married with her husband, whom Stephanie believed that he was a gold-digger. After their marriage, Amelia got pregnant, and she stopped visiting her mother.
As for her son, Mark was constantly busy with his work, but Stephanie was sure that her son was not interested with visiting his old mother too. But lately things changed as both her son and daughter started to visit her. Stephanie was happy that she was seeing her children, as they were spending time with her.
But as for Stephanie’s luck, she overheard her children talking about the money they will inherit from her, as they were expecting her death. She was strolling the hallways for that reason.
As she was walking, she heard cries from a room, where an 11-year-old boy was crying for a woman who was seeming to be sleeping in the bed.
“Hey,” she called, “Hey, boy. Are you ok?”
“No,” the kid responded, “My mom is sick.”
“What does she have?”
“I don’t know, but the doctors said she needs to stay in bed with her treatments which we can’t afford, so we have to leave tomorrow,” the boy said.
“What’s your name, kid?”
“Patrick, and my mother’s name is Rachel.”
“Hi Patrick, I’m Stephanie. Do you know the treatment she needs, or can you call someone who I can talk with.”
“We only have each other. My mother got sick after she worked two jobs for us to live.” Patrick said.
“Don’t worry Patrick, I will do what I can for you and your mother. You focus on your school, I will deal with your problems.” Stephanie said with a smile, as she patted Patrick’s head.
Then, Stephanie talked with the nurses for Rachel and Patrick. As she received some information on Rachel, she contacted with her lawyer and invited him to the hospital room where she was staying. As the lawyer, Mr. Mallister arrived, she sent her children out of the room, but they started to listen as they leaned on the door.
Stephanie told to Mr. Mallister that her children will receive $5,000 each, and that is all they are getting. They will also get the house as she already gave it to her children, long before she overheard their plans. Then she stated that the rest of the wealth will go to Patrick and Rachel.
The money Stephanie is receiving from her late husband’s books was going to be saved in an account for Rachel and Patrick, and Stephanie also bought a house for the single mother and her son, Patrick.
As her children heard what was happening, they barged into the room and tried to stop their mother. As Stephanie confronted with her children about the things she heard, she revealed Patrick’s story, and how she was touched when she saw Patrick crying for her mother, despite her own children are expecting her passing.
As time passed, Rachel got better through her treatment, and they moved into their new house, which Stephanie bought for them. They started to live together, as Stephanie was not alone anymore.
