Meredith saw a message on her son, Edward’s phone, while she was cleaning the living room. It was shocking for her since Edward was a married man, and the number was not saved on his phone.
As she was suspicious over the message on her son’s phone, Meredith was devastated with the second message: “Can’t wait to see you again, love.”
Edward was going out more than ever lately and there was a distance between him and Meredith, as they were sharing everything with each other in the past, as mother and son.
Her husband, Robert, was distanced himself from Meredith too, as he was busy with his own hobbies. They were not talking enough as they were used to. Meredith was feeling more and more lonely with the recent events. She was fearing that her family were leaving her alone.
While her son was leaving on the next morning, “Where are you going?” She asked.
“Just out for a bit, Mom,” Edward responded.
Meredith followed her son to learn what was happening. She was nervous. As Edward parked his car in front of a cafe, she started to watch him from distance. Then she saw Edward with her best friend, Linda. They hugged and sat together. She was relieved and confused.
They were comfortable with each other but Meredith was scared to face them, but she needed answers. As she held up her courage to confront them, she saw her husband approaching to them. She stopped herself again and watched them.
When they were talking while showing a brochure to each other, Meredith decided to walk towards them. Edward saw his mother. “Mom!” he was surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” Meredith said.
“Meredith, we were just about to call you!” Linda turned to Meredith.
“Mom, I’m sorry for the secrecy. We’ve been planning something special.”
“We’ve been arranging a surprise retirement cruise for you and Robert. We wanted it to be perfect before telling you.” Linda continued.
“A cruise? For us?”
“Yes, honey. They’ve been working hard to make sure everything is just right. We didn’t want to get your hopes up until it was all set.” Robert smiled.
“I thought… I thought something else was going on,” Meredith started, as she was trying to hide her tears from them.
“I’m so sorry, Mom. We should have told you sooner.” Edward hugged to his mother.
“We didn’t mean to worry you. We just wanted it to be a wonderful surprise.” Linda expressed her feelings.
“Thank you, this means so much to me.” Meredith said, as she was crying.
